Competition Program
At the heart of the festival lies the competition programme, in which outstanding animated films from all over the world compete against each other in six categories. Many of the filmmakers are present and available for Q&As after the screenings. The coveted, hand-cast golden bear trophies and prize money will be awarded.

The competition also serves as the Opening Ceremony and marks the festive start of FAB 2025, followed by a reception after the program.

Opening & Award CeremonyThe Opening Ceremony is part of the German Animation Film Competition and features the Animanga Choir. It will take place on Friday, September 26, at 7:00 PM at City Kino Wedding, followed by a reception after the screening.
The Award Ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 28, at 8:00 PM in the dome hall of the silent green Kulturquartier, followed by the Closing Party in the lounge.
Supporting Program
The supporting programme complements the competitions, offering a variety of formats for professionals, families, and those with an interest in animation. With the Berlin Animation Hub serving as a meeting place for workshops, meet-the-expert seminars, and industry dialogue; interactive exhibitions, such as FAB Dimensional; and family-friendly programmes, not to mention an annually changing focus topic, the programme offers ample opportunity for exchange, inspiration, and new perspectives on the world of animation.
Berlin Animation Hub
The Berlin Animation Hub aims to strengthen Berlin as a production hub for animated film – look forward to inspiring meet-the-expert seminars, hands-on workshops, exciting pitching sessions, talks and panels, as well as diverse networking events.

Focus: Japan
Hardly any other style of animation is as independent and influential as anime. With a focus on Japan, FAB celebrates the creative diversity of Japanese animation – with selected films, themed activities and special artists Lina Machidawho designed the festival trailer.

For Kids, Families and Students
We have plenty to offer our youngest animation fans and their companions: Pink Panda shows films for different age groups, including a live translation of the original languages for the pre-school and primary school programmes. There are also great hands-on activities, such as workshops and Q&As with filmmakers after the show.
Stop-Motion Summit @ FAB 2025
A full day of stop-motion! At the Stop-Motion Summit during FAB, you’ll learn practical tricks and workflows. Casual panels offer space for questions, exchange and sharing your own experiences. Exclusively on Friday, 26.9. at silent green Kulturquartier.
FAB Dimensional
Die Ausstellung FAB Dimensional zeigt Animationskunst jenseits des klassischen Kinos – interaktiv, installativ und raumgreifend. Bereits zum fünften mal trifft in dieser Ausstellung Animation auf Skulptur, Games und Installation und lädt zum Staunen, Entdecken und Aktiv werden.
