Juliet and the King: Animation Between Art and Challenge
Ashkan Rahgozar on the making of a hand-drawn animated film in Iran

Description
In this case study, director Ashkan Rahgozar offers insights into the making of his animated feature film "Juliet and the King". The film tells the story of an Iranian king who falls in love with Julie, the leading actress in a Paris production of Romeo and Juliet, and invites her to Tehran. There, she becomes entangled in courtly intrigue, the jealousy of the women at court and the king’s ambitious plans. Together, we explore the production challenges involved in creating this hand-drawn animated film in Iran, whose visual style is inspired by Disney’s Golden Age.
